The Controversial Palette | Anastasia Beverly Hills' Subculture Palette First Impressions and Swatches || The Glam Surge
I finally cracked this baby open.. I feel like only beauty bloggers can relate when I say I can't use a new palette until I've taken photos of it in it's freshest state. I bought this last month and I only had the chance to use it for the first time last Friday, oops

Now if you haven't heard of Anastasia Beverly Hills' Subculture Palette, you've clearly been living under a rock. When it first came out, there was so much drama and controversy around it over it apparently being way too powdery and difficult to work with. When a few of my favourite bloggers came out with their take on the palette (and their reviews were mostly positive), I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a go for myself.

To be honest, I've only used this palette once and swatched the shadows once, so this will be a first impressions post. First of all, I just want to say that this palette is a breath of fresh air. A lot of the new palettes that released this year were along the same colour spectrum - burnt orange/burgundy etc. This one has a bunch of shades that I don't have in my collection at all, which is why I feel like it's so refreshing and it's also one of the main reasons I decided to pick it up as well.

After swatching them, I noticed that they were mostly all pigmented. Pigmented, smooth and buttery. Extremely similar to the shadows in the Modern Renaissance palette. The only two shades that I was disappointed with were Cube and Electric. They were the only two shades that did not match up to the pigmentation of the rest. Now enjoy these swatches -

So how did they hold up when it was game time? Have you guys watched Alissa Ashley's review on it? I believe her review was the one that started all of the controversy. When she was applying it, there were areas on her lid that didn't pick up shadow and it would look really patchy. That's the same thing that happened with me. I wanted to do a simple/fast smokey eye using Axis and Mercury, however Axis was just not applying right even with me blending for 10 minutes. It was very off putting, but before I give a full review on this palette, I'm going to have to continue using these as well as the other shades. Right now my feeling towards this palette is very mixed. An update should be expected in the future!

Have you tried this palette yet? What are your thoughts on it?
