Get Ready With Me | Autumn Makeup & Avoiding Flashback

Get Ready With Me | Autumn Makeup & Avoiding Flashback with an Illuminated Phone Case || The Glam Surge
Last weekend, the clocks turned back an hour. And to me, that's the indefinite sign that winter is coming. Although I appreciate that the brighter mornings, I can't stand that it gets dark so early in the evening. Then with the weather is dropping lower and lower each day; it's just a bad time for me all around. We've barely made a dent into Autumn, but I'm already wishing and dreaming for Summer. End of rant.

Now onto what you guys clicked on here for - the makeup look! I think this look would be perfect for the day time, yet could easily be switched to night time glam with a change of the lip colour. Speaking of night time, I also picked out products that are camera-ready and wouldn't create that ugly flashback look that everyone dreads when taking photos when the lighting isn't so great. One of the photos below was taken with natural lighting, while the other was using an illuminated iPhone case*. As you can see, there's no whitecast whatsoever. If you asked me, I much prefer the way my selfie with the illuminated case turned out as it looks more clear and detailed compared to the natural lighting photo. It also accentuates the colours of eyeshadows I used which I'm sure all makeup artists (or anyone that spent generous minutes blending their shadows) would appreciate. Now before I start rambling, let's get into the makeup deets, shall we?

I started off by priming my face with the Benefit Porefessional. I was taking a break from this guy, but I cracked a new one open today and fell back in love with it. For foundation, I made a little mixture using the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick and The Ordinary Serum Foundation. I found that it gave me a dewy full coverage, but it was also lightweight feeling. Using the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer to conceal and highlight, then setting it with the RCMA No Colour Powder. Despite it being a stark white powder, it does not create any white cast at all which is why I love it so much. I then went in with the Hourglass Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light and Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder to contour and add colour back into my face. Then highlighted with the MUFE Pro Light Fusion Highlighter in 02 and blending the NARS Blush in Doucer in between. I then set my whole face with the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray to rid any powdery-look I may have had.

For the brows, I turned to my trusty ABH Dipbrow Pomade, cleaned it up with the ABH Concealer, then set them with the Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Mascara*. Moving onto eyeshadow, I used shades from the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette only. I blended these five shades from the lightest (starting at the crease) to the darkest moving toward the lid: Raw Sienna, Realgar, Red Ochre, Cyprus Umber, Venetian Red. On my lash line, I used Cyprus Umber and blended it out with Real Gar. For falsies, I used the Leong Cosmetics Lashes in No. 13*, then hit my lower lashes with the  Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara*. To finish off the look, I threw on the Huda Beauty Liquid Lipstick in Venus - but like I mentioned earlier, the look could be easily turned into a more nightlife look with a darker shade.

tips for avoiding 'flashback'..
• avoid using products heavy in SPF as they tend to often cause that white cast.
• when using a powder on the face, use a translucent one or something that isn't stark white. also, try not to bake for too long as that may give you that 'white' tinge.
• instead of taking photos with direct flash, use an illuminated phone case. I was sent a Lumee Duo case* (yes, the brand that Kim Kardashian uses) which is what I used in my photo above. It's perfect for those dark autumn/winter nights or when you're at an event and the lighting is absolutely terrible. Also, the Duo case has lights on both sides, so you're covered when it comes to selfies & taking photos with the back camera.

Products marked with a (*) were sent to me for consideration. This post was sponsored by Nocturnal. All opinion are my own.

What do you do to combat the dreadful flashback in photos?
