February Favourites

I was originally going to do my monthly haul post, but since I've been on a spending ban, there's pretty much nothing to haul. Well, actually, I bought a little bottle of the Pixi Glow Tonic & the Nip+Fab Glycolic Pads two days ago. BUT ANYWAYS - I thought in place of that, I'd do a little favourites post of things I've been loving this month. Let's get into it -

MunchPak | Snacks From Around The World

MunchPak kindly sent me a Munchpak Mini* box and I thought it would be fun to do a reaction video of my boyfriend, daughter and I trying these snacks for the first time. Hope you enjoy this vlog!

What I Learned From Being On A Spending Ban

I've successfully got through my two month spending ban! Yay! To be honest, when I first started, I didn't have much faith in myself. I thought I would crack the first moment I laid my eyes on something or when everyone would start raving on about the hottest new thang. But nope, I didn't and I couldn't be anymore proud of myself. Here are a few things I learned after being on a 60-day (or more) spending ban:

Beauty Products NOT Worth The Hype

Being a makeup enthusiast has it's benefits. You can express yourself through the art of makeup, watch others express themselves, learn different techniques of application, improve your skills with the art, but also, be exposed to hundreds of thousands of brands/products. That may be good, but at the same time it could also be so bad. Bad in the sense that you constantly feel the need to buy into every product that is getting hype in the community. I fall guilty to this and that's the reason for this post. Here are a few items that I feel were too overhyped to the point that they underperformed in my eyes:

MAC Lipstick Lookbook

When I was new to makeup and wasn't familiar with all the products available, MAC lipsticks were my go-to. There was a point in time when I went crazy & picked up a bunch of their lipsticks; that's pretty much how my collection grew. Admittedly, it wasn't the friendliest addiction to hit my wallet, but...no regrets. Here are all the shades I own from collecting over the past few years:

BITE Beauty Does Lip Pencils

BITE Beauty is one of those brands that have never let me down. Their Matte Creme Lip Crayons & Amuse Bouche Lipsticks are some of my favourites from the brand. So when I opened up my email one morning and saw that I would be one of many who would be receiving the BITE Beauty Lip Pencil VoxBox via Influenster, I was downright ecstatic.

Pinterest Beauty Hacks | Tried & Tested

Every now and then I like to spend a couple few hours on Pinterest. You can find so many things on there. Some of my favourites have to be the endless amount of jaw-dropping room inspos and the bunches of DIYs that I always pin to do later on (but never actually get around to doing). And then you have numerous pins of beauty hacks. Every time I come across them, I'm automatically intrigued and I wonder if they actually work. I'm finally putting an end to my curiousity (and maybe some of yours) and testing them out for myself.

The Alchemist Holographic Palette

Ever since the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glowkit in Moonchild came out, I've been dying to get my hands on it. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't available on Sephora's website and I wasn't about to pay a fortune from ordering it off ABH directly. So when I found out that Kat Von D was coming out with the Alchemist Holographic Palette, I made it a goal to pick it up the second it was available on Sephora..and that I did. I've been trying these out for a while now and I'm ready to share my thoughts..

February Makeup Menu

And the shopping of my stash continues... I've actually been really enjoying this as a bunch of the makeup in my collection have been on rotate. I find that switching products in and out each month help me show love to all my bits instead of turning to the same ones every time. I've kept a few of the same products in my routine, but here are the new additions:

Top Five Winter Foundations

Winter in Toronto hasn't been as brutal compared to previous years and I'm so thankful for that. I was looking back at photos and was horrified when I came across a picture of snow being waist-high on me. This winter has been super quiet and I've been so happy about it. Nonetheless, I'm so ready for it to go and for Spring to make an appearance. Before that, I wanted to share a few foundations that have been getting a lot of love this season..

Makeup Look: Valentine's Day Pink

Valentine's Day is just right around the corner. It's that time of year again where all the teen boys are scrambling to find a lady to impress and hopefully get some tongue action (ew!). And it's also that time of year where the prices of roses and chocolates go up by a gazillion dollars. Between my boyfriend and I, this 'special' day isn't taken so seriously as we think everyday should be a day to cherish your loved one, but I'm not saying there's anything wrong with spoiling your woman (or man). But that's beside my point.. When I think of V-Day, the colour pink automatically comes to mind. So here's a look I came up with using pinks that would be perfect for the special occasion.

February Goals & January Update

Can we all just take a minute to realize how fast January flew past us? How are we already finished with the first month of 2017? Crazy. Anyways.. Unlike my past few 'goals' posts, I have some really good news. I actually managed to complete everything on my list! I was successful with my spending ban (as you can see in last month's haul), I pulled out a bunch of oldies from my makeup collection, I hosted a successful giveaway, I cleaned out my closet & got rid of a few pieces, and I also got back into the flow of blogging. I can confidently say that my 2017 is sailing really smoothly so far. And now onto my February goals:

The Skincare Edit

Over the past few years, I've been dabbling in and out of the skincare world and it wasn't until last year that I started getting more serious about it. I mean, I'm not getting any younger, so it finally hit me that I've got to start taking good care of my skin. Now I'm not claiming to be a skincare expert, but I have found a bunch of products that work for me and I'm ready to share them.

The Beauty Rundown | January 2017

Last month, I finally decided to bite the bullet and pick it up after seeing so many people talking about how good it was. I've been getting more into skincare and since my skin tends to get drier during the winter months, this seemed fitting. I must say that this is hydrating, however I don't think it was as hydrating as other people claimed it to be. My current moisturizer is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light Cream and when comparing it to the FAB one, Vichy just gives me way more hydration. My skin still feels a little tight when I use this cream and contrary to the non-greasy claim (on Sephora), I do find it to be a little slick-feeling even after giving it a few minutes to sink into my skin.

During Cyber Monday, these were going for a dollar so I decided to pick one up while restocking on a favourite of mine - the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. This is said to be a hydration support formula. I don't notice a huge difference in hydration, but ever since I started incorporating this into my routine, I noticed that my skin looked and felt more supple and smooth. This serum has a gel-like texture and I noticed that it gets a little tacky on initial application. However, I do go in with other products afterwards and that doesn't become an issue for me.

One thing I can't stand is chapped lips and unfortunately for me, mine get very dry and I've struggled to find something to combat that. So after seeing a bunch of good reviews on this, I decided to give it a go. I was definitely not left disappointed. The smell of this is a very fruity scent, which I'm very fond of; however, it's a very subtle scent and not too overpowering. The formula is super smooth and it just glides on during application. A little goes a very long way with this lip mask. I like to apply this right before bed and by the time I wake up, my lips are smooth, plump, and very moisturized. I'm happy to say that I finally found something to help with my dry lips.

This month I'll be reviewing:

  • Lush Rose Jam Shower Gel | Lush, $9.95
  • Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask (deluxe sample) | Sephora, $64
  • Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Intensive Anti-Aging Cellular Cream (deluxe sample) | Sephora, $105

Have you tried any of these products?
