Vacation Makeup Favourites

It's been almost 2 weeks since I came back from the Philippines. The withdrawal is real right now, folks! The weather change has been so depressing. Imagine going from wearing shorts to wearing sweatpants in less than 24 hours.. Oh how much I despise the cold. Speaking of weather change, with change in climate comes a makeup switch up. Here are the beauty bits I used pretty much everyday while on vacation:

The Foundations That Survived My Beauty Purge

I did a little Spring cleaning to my makeup collection and it resulted in a whole box of rarely used makeup. Usually when I do a little inventory check, I could barely let go of an itty-bitty-almost-finished lipstick. This time around, I felt the need to purge...it may or may not have been because I watched The Purge: Election Year last week. I did not hold back and may have ditched 25% of my makeup collection.

A Collective Beauty Haul

It's been a long, long time since my last haul. Since putting myself on a two month spending ban in the beginning of the year & being away for vacation, the last haul I shared was in January. It feels so refreshing to finally be able to do another one. Here's a bunch of products I've accumulated since the beginning of March up until now:

Life & Blog Update | Where Have I Been?

I actually can't believe the last time I put up a new post was almost 2 weeks ago. That's the longest I've ever gone without posting on my little space and I'm so sad about it, but I have a valid excuse for that. If you've kept up with my blog (or social media or read this post), then you probably know I went on a month long vacation to the Philippines. One of my goals for that month was to switch off & I did so well that I wasn't even able to keep pre-writing like I planned to. It was such a fun-filled getaway with no time for breaks and if I took the time to sit on my laptop all day to stay up to date on here, I think I would of regretted it tremendously. And that pretty much answers the "Where have I been?" question.

April Goals & March Update

I really can't believe how quick a month passed by. I know I say that every time I do these type of posts, but this time I feel like it went by twice as fast. As for reflecting back to last month's goals, it's safe to say I pretty much was successful with all of them. I tried a bunch of new things while on vacation. One of them being eating balut. If you don't know what that is, look it up on google because I might scare away a few people if I say it on here (no, it's not dog! stop thinking that!).

Travel Bucket List

While being on vacation, I came to realize just how much I like to travel and explore new places. Seeing the difference between how you live at home compared to how they live over there, trying new foods, finally seeing things you wished to see when it came up on the tv. All of those things excite and wow me. Unfortunately, I don't get to do things like that often but a girl could dream! There's just so many things out in the world to see, but so little time (and money).

Asian Skincare | Naruko Canada Tea Tree Series

One of the best things about being a blogger is discovering new brands. If I wasn't a part of the blogging world, I don't think I would of ever got into Asian skincare. So when Naruko Canada contacted me to try some of their products, I jumped at the chance to finally dabble into the world of Asian skincare.

How to Keep Blogging While on Vacation

As most of you already know, I'm currently in the Philippines for vacation. So far I've managed to keep my blogging consistent and I pray that it stays that way throughout my whole trip. Admittedly, when you're on vacation, the last thing you want to do is be glued to your laptop trying to keep your blog updated. But luckily, I found a loophole to that (it's not really that serious, lol). Here are a few ways I'm managing running my blog while away from home:

Five Faves | Maybelline

If you could recall, I wrote a previous post on my five faves from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I'm actually planning on making "Five Faves" a series where I talk about my top five products from a specific brand. Today, I'll be sharing my favourites from one of my preferred drugstore brands: Maybelline. While looking for the next brand to write about, I realized I had a lot from them that I used regularly. Here are my five faves:

22 Things About Being 22

I'm officially 22! And what a memorable one it is as I'm spending it in the Philippines for the first time! Even though I'm a long way from half of my family (and not to mention my boyfriend), I have the other half right here & I'm really glad about that. Last year on my birthday, I wrote an extremely lengthy post (see it here), this year I decided to do the "X Things About Being X" post. Here are a few things I've learnt & picked up throughout the years. Enjoy!

On-Flight Essentials

By the time this is up, I've probably taken my first flight in 7 years - yes, it's been that long. The last time I was on a plane was when I was 14 or 15. The memory is so distant to me, I could barely remember it. Let alone remember what the heck I took with me on the plane. I did, at the time however, have my mom travelling with me and she probably packed everything that I would need in her bag. This time, I'm only travelling with my dad & daughter.. So all the stress of packing is basically on me. I don't know if I'm doing this right, but here's a few things I'm taking with me on my carry-on:

In My Makeup Bag | What I'm Taking On Vacation

Packing up makeup for an overseas trip has to be one of the hardest things to do. Especially if you only have an hour to do it - Gosh, I'm such a procrastinator. Hopefully I didn't forget to pack something, but I definitely won't complain if I did 'cause then I get to buy one over where I'm staying. Also, I apologize for the lack of photos & not displaying what I'm bringing. They were already packed up in my bag & I didn't feel like unpacking them just to repack them again. Here are the bits who get to travel across the ocean with me:

Product Empties #4

With Spring coming soon, I decided to do a little clear out of the products I've been holding onto for an Empties post. I hadn't realized that I'd actually finished up a decent amount of products - well, enough for a mini empties post at least.

Things That Made Me Smile This Week

The past few weeks have been pretty busy for me, with packing for vacation and trying my best to pre-write as many blog posts as I could. I mentioned in my March Goals post that I planned to switch off this month. For me, step one of switching off was taking time out of my day to reflect on things that made me happy recently despite all the stress. Here are a few things that came to mind:

The Perfect Spring Lipsticks

The official first day of Spring is just right around the corner and I couldn't be more excited. Even though the weather in Toronto isn't showing signs of warming up any time soon, I have no problem pulling out a few Spring-appropriate lipsticks in hopes that the heat will finally make an appearance.

March Goals & February Update

Where, oh where is the time going? Seriously though, how are we already in March? I'm probably going to be saying that for every month that passes (oops). February was meh month for me when it comes to my goals. One thing I was very successful with was my spending ban (read this post) and I couldn't be more proud of myself for it. As for being more active, I'd say "kinda". I started doing some exercises here and there, but not as much as I planned on doing when I set that as a goal. Packing for vacation was a "kinda" as well as I pretty much have everything ready; just waiting for the last few days at home to pack up some everyday things.

New Additions To My Skincare Routine

I have a confession - before starting my blog, I had no idea of the importance of maintaining a good skincare routine. It was only until sometime last year that I started getting more into skin products & learning all it's benefits, whether long term or short term. Since then, I've had the chance to try more than a handful of products, experimenting with them, finding which products were for me and which ones I should steer clear for. I've also started adding new things into my routine, like an essence - I've never heard of that up until last year. The newest additions that I started incorporating into my regimen are facial oils. These two in particle are what I've been obsessing over lately:

Five Faves | Anastasia Beverly Hills

There's no denying that Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of the hottest brands out there at the moment. In fact, they're probably up there in my top 5 makeup brands. The first time I heard about them was when everybody & their mommas were raving about the Dip Brow. Their eyebrows looked so good, I just knew I had to add it to my collection. And that's when my love for the brand started. Since the Dip Brow, I've tried my fair amount of products from them. Here are my favourite five:

February Favourites

I was originally going to do my monthly haul post, but since I've been on a spending ban, there's pretty much nothing to haul. Well, actually, I bought a little bottle of the Pixi Glow Tonic & the Nip+Fab Glycolic Pads two days ago. BUT ANYWAYS - I thought in place of that, I'd do a little favourites post of things I've been loving this month. Let's get into it -

What I Learned From Being On A Spending Ban

I've successfully got through my two month spending ban! Yay! To be honest, when I first started, I didn't have much faith in myself. I thought I would crack the first moment I laid my eyes on something or when everyone would start raving on about the hottest new thang. But nope, I didn't and I couldn't be anymore proud of myself. Here are a few things I learned after being on a 60-day (or more) spending ban:

Beauty Products NOT Worth The Hype

Being a makeup enthusiast has it's benefits. You can express yourself through the art of makeup, watch others express themselves, learn different techniques of application, improve your skills with the art, but also, be exposed to hundreds of thousands of brands/products. That may be good, but at the same time it could also be so bad. Bad in the sense that you constantly feel the need to buy into every product that is getting hype in the community. I fall guilty to this and that's the reason for this post. Here are a few items that I feel were too overhyped to the point that they underperformed in my eyes:

MAC Lipstick Lookbook

When I was new to makeup and wasn't familiar with all the products available, MAC lipsticks were my go-to. There was a point in time when I went crazy & picked up a bunch of their lipsticks; that's pretty much how my collection grew. Admittedly, it wasn't the friendliest addiction to hit my wallet, but...no regrets. Here are all the shades I own from collecting over the past few years:

BITE Beauty Does Lip Pencils

BITE Beauty is one of those brands that have never let me down. Their Matte Creme Lip Crayons & Amuse Bouche Lipsticks are some of my favourites from the brand. So when I opened up my email one morning and saw that I would be one of many who would be receiving the BITE Beauty Lip Pencil VoxBox via Influenster, I was downright ecstatic.

Pinterest Beauty Hacks | Tried & Tested

Every now and then I like to spend a couple few hours on Pinterest. You can find so many things on there. Some of my favourites have to be the endless amount of jaw-dropping room inspos and the bunches of DIYs that I always pin to do later on (but never actually get around to doing). And then you have numerous pins of beauty hacks. Every time I come across them, I'm automatically intrigued and I wonder if they actually work. I'm finally putting an end to my curiousity (and maybe some of yours) and testing them out for myself.

The Alchemist Holographic Palette

Ever since the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glowkit in Moonchild came out, I've been dying to get my hands on it. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't available on Sephora's website and I wasn't about to pay a fortune from ordering it off ABH directly. So when I found out that Kat Von D was coming out with the Alchemist Holographic Palette, I made it a goal to pick it up the second it was available on Sephora..and that I did. I've been trying these out for a while now and I'm ready to share my thoughts..

February Makeup Menu

And the shopping of my stash continues... I've actually been really enjoying this as a bunch of the makeup in my collection have been on rotate. I find that switching products in and out each month help me show love to all my bits instead of turning to the same ones every time. I've kept a few of the same products in my routine, but here are the new additions:

Top Five Winter Foundations

Winter in Toronto hasn't been as brutal compared to previous years and I'm so thankful for that. I was looking back at photos and was horrified when I came across a picture of snow being waist-high on me. This winter has been super quiet and I've been so happy about it. Nonetheless, I'm so ready for it to go and for Spring to make an appearance. Before that, I wanted to share a few foundations that have been getting a lot of love this season..

Makeup Look: Valentine's Day Pink

Valentine's Day is just right around the corner. It's that time of year again where all the teen boys are scrambling to find a lady to impress and hopefully get some tongue action (ew!). And it's also that time of year where the prices of roses and chocolates go up by a gazillion dollars. Between my boyfriend and I, this 'special' day isn't taken so seriously as we think everyday should be a day to cherish your loved one, but I'm not saying there's anything wrong with spoiling your woman (or man). But that's beside my point.. When I think of V-Day, the colour pink automatically comes to mind. So here's a look I came up with using pinks that would be perfect for the special occasion.

February Goals & January Update

Can we all just take a minute to realize how fast January flew past us? How are we already finished with the first month of 2017? Crazy. Anyways.. Unlike my past few 'goals' posts, I have some really good news. I actually managed to complete everything on my list! I was successful with my spending ban (as you can see in last month's haul), I pulled out a bunch of oldies from my makeup collection, I hosted a successful giveaway, I cleaned out my closet & got rid of a few pieces, and I also got back into the flow of blogging. I can confidently say that my 2017 is sailing really smoothly so far. And now onto my February goals:

The Skincare Edit

Over the past few years, I've been dabbling in and out of the skincare world and it wasn't until last year that I started getting more serious about it. I mean, I'm not getting any younger, so it finally hit me that I've got to start taking good care of my skin. Now I'm not claiming to be a skincare expert, but I have found a bunch of products that work for me and I'm ready to share them.

The Beauty Rundown | January 2017

Last month, I finally decided to bite the bullet and pick it up after seeing so many people talking about how good it was. I've been getting more into skincare and since my skin tends to get drier during the winter months, this seemed fitting. I must say that this is hydrating, however I don't think it was as hydrating as other people claimed it to be. My current moisturizer is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light Cream and when comparing it to the FAB one, Vichy just gives me way more hydration. My skin still feels a little tight when I use this cream and contrary to the non-greasy claim (on Sephora), I do find it to be a little slick-feeling even after giving it a few minutes to sink into my skin.

During Cyber Monday, these were going for a dollar so I decided to pick one up while restocking on a favourite of mine - the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. This is said to be a hydration support formula. I don't notice a huge difference in hydration, but ever since I started incorporating this into my routine, I noticed that my skin looked and felt more supple and smooth. This serum has a gel-like texture and I noticed that it gets a little tacky on initial application. However, I do go in with other products afterwards and that doesn't become an issue for me.

One thing I can't stand is chapped lips and unfortunately for me, mine get very dry and I've struggled to find something to combat that. So after seeing a bunch of good reviews on this, I decided to give it a go. I was definitely not left disappointed. The smell of this is a very fruity scent, which I'm very fond of; however, it's a very subtle scent and not too overpowering. The formula is super smooth and it just glides on during application. A little goes a very long way with this lip mask. I like to apply this right before bed and by the time I wake up, my lips are smooth, plump, and very moisturized. I'm happy to say that I finally found something to help with my dry lips.

This month I'll be reviewing:

  • Lush Rose Jam Shower Gel | Lush, $9.95
  • Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask (deluxe sample) | Sephora, $64
  • Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Intensive Anti-Aging Cellular Cream (deluxe sample) | Sephora, $105

Have you tried any of these products?

Beauty Trends of 2017

As with every new year, new trends surface. Today I'll be sharing some of the beauty trends that are said to be making a big appearance during the year of twenty-seventeen. After scavenging the web, I noticed a specific theme with all of these trends: this year will be the year for enhancing your natural beauty. Curious? Here are a few things that you'll be seeing a lot of this year:

January Haul

Spoiler alert: I stayed true to my spending ban. I was extremely good this month as you can tell by this very tiny haul. However, if I could haul food, then I may have to retract that whole claim. Anyways, here are the few bits I picked out this month:

Lush Fairy Dust | Lush

PS. I apologize for this extremely short post, but this is literally all I picked up this month. Watch out for my review on the KVD palette though. For the longest time I wanted the Moonchild Glow Kit from Anastasia, but it was never available on Sephora. When I saw that this came to Sephora, I snatched it up without hesitation early in the month. I've been testing it out for the past few weeks and I'm ready to share my thoughts - so keep your eyes peeled for that post!

What did you pick up during January? Have you ever put yourself on a spending ban?

Beauty Wishlist #3

Since I'm on a spending ban, I felt like another beauty wishlist was necessary. There's been so many new launches lately and I've just been drooling over everything (maybe even crying at the fact that I can't purchase anything). A lot of those launches have been quickly added onto my lust list and I'm just so ready to be over with this spending ban. Anyways, here are a few bits that's made it onto there:

Why I Started Blogging

Every blogger's story as to why they created their little space on the web is different; they may be similar in some aspects, but definitely unique. As for my story, a few may be able to relate to one element: boredom. Yes, I admit it - my blog was created out of boredom BUT my story doesn't stop there. Let me explain further..

The Beauty Blogs You Need to Start Reading

Throughout my one year of blogging, I've come across a ton of blogs in all different types of niches. But for me, my absolute favourite blogs to read are the beauty ones (duh!). It's just about time for me to share my most-liked beauty blogs with my readers. These are the bloggers that I feel produce some of the best content in the beauty community and are totally worth checking out:

Brush Your Hair Straight ft. Irresistible Me

There's this hair straightening brush trend that's been going around lately and it had me so intrigued. I found it crazy how you could just run a simple brush through your strands and it'd quickly alter your natural hair into silky straight hair. In reality, I thought it too good to be true. But when Irresistible Me contacted me and offered me the chance to try out their Jade Hair Straightening Brush*, I jumped at the chance. I've been testing it out for a few weeks and I'm ready to share my thoughts on it.

Five Things That Make Me Happy

Product Empties #3

I feel like these empties posts are getting closer and closer together. The last one I did was back in November (see post here), so it's been two months. I'm surprised to see that I've already used up enough products to make a part 3. With me being on a spending ban & all, part 4 may come even sooner..at least I'm hoping it will. Finishing up a product gives me such a great feeling of accomplishment, knowing that my money isn't wasting away in my makeup drawer. Anyways, here are my empties -

If you've been following my blog for a while, you may remember that I posted about a NYX Cosmetics event that I attended back in October (see post here). If you do remember that, you may also recall that I received a bag full of NYX goodies after the party; A bunch of them being their Pigments & Glitters, which I'll be talking about today.

The Minimal Jewelry Edit

As a person who doesn't like to wear much jewelry, I must admit that adding a few pieces to your outfit can make a huge difference. I'm not saying you have to go all out with a big statement necklace, though if that's what you prefer, go for it. But in my opinion (and preference), all you need is a simple bit of jewelry to transform your getup and here are some of my favourites -

One Year Anniversary + Giveaway!

Happy first birthday to my blog! Wow, a year of blogging went by extremely fast. Crazy to think of just how many new things and people I've been exposed to in my short, but ongoing, journey of being blogger. And I'm ready to keep growing. Making the choice to start blogging was one of the best decisions I made in 2016.

How Much Is My Face?

The amount of times I've seen this post done is more than I can count on two hands. Just to be clear, I'm not complaining. I actually really enjoy reading them and seeing just how much we spend on makeup these days. Of course I had to join the party as I'm curious on how much I, myself, spends on makeup.

January Makeup Menu

If you read my last post, you probably know that I've put myself on a spending ban this month. Because of that, I'm going to have to shop my own stash and use the products I already own. On the bright side, it's a great way for me to finally use up the makeup that's been in my collection for the longest time (look forward to an empties post soon!). These are the goodies on the menu this month:

January Goals & December Update

Another month has passed (a whole year actually - happy new year!), so it's time for another update + new goals. I'm just going to get to the point on this one and say I was only able to check off one thing from last month's list. Ugh, yes, I failed once again, but I do have a really good excuse! I decided to take a seasonal job offer in December to make more 'moula' for the holiday season. They gave me endless shifts, so I wasn't able to accomplish as much as I wanted to last month. With that said, the only thing I was able to get done was build a gingerbread house (yay!). My daughter and I did it together and we had tons of fun. To my surprise, our first one ever turned out pretty good. And now onto my new goals..
