Book Review | The Girl On The Train

I'm pretty sure it was two years ago when my mom came home with a sample of this book. When I read it, I was hooked and I had to read it. I don't know why it took so long, but I finally brought myself to purchase it and it was good. The book that I'm talking about it The Girl On The Train. Actually, it was more than good.. It was amazing. I literally couldn't stop reading it and when I did have to put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I finished the book in less than 3 days. Although, if I didn't have any other responsibilities, I believe I could of read it all in one sitting.

Makeup Look: Bronze Glow

With all these new highlighters coming out from a bunch of different brands, I was inspired to create a "bronzy-glow" look. Also, I took this time to finally try out the Becca x Jaclyn Hill face palette. And I am in love! The pigmentation of these are so nice and the highlighters are amazing, whether you use them individually or together. This palette is definitely worth every single penny.
I think this look would be perfect for the Summer, day or night. The eyes are really neutral/subtle, which means you could switch the lip up to whatever colour you'd prefer.

Flower Girl | Family Event

It seems to be wedding season. My boyfriend and I knew about 3 other people who went to different weddings. Also, I know a few couples who celebrated their anniversaries as well! I guess around this time is the most popular to marry.

5 Things

Does anybody remember the song 7 Things by Miley Cyrus? In the song, she sang about the 7 things she hated and loved about this guy. Well, this has just about the same concept. I got my boyfriend, Darwin, to join in on this post with me. Let's see if he dares to list 5 things on the hate list, haha.

Makeup Look: Kylie Jenner Inspired | Collab

Today, I bring to you a daytime look inspired by Kylie Jenner. For this, I teamed up with my blogger friend, Hannah (from Hannah Daisy D). She runs a blog that surrounds around beauty, fashion and lifestyle. After reading my post, I urge you to take a trip over to her blog and check out her evening look inspired by Kylie Jenner!

The photo of Kylie above is the look I tried to recreate. For my base, I used the Becca Backlight Filter Primer in conjunction with Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation to make my skin look glowy just like Kylie's. After concealer, I dusted a bit of the Dim Light & Incandescent Light from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette on my forehead, cheeks/undereyes, and chin to give me even more glow. As for my cheekbone & nose highlight, I used the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Pressed Highlighter. On my lips, I applied a concoction of MAC Kinda Sexy, ColourPop Midi liquid lipstick, and KVD Bow N Arrow

For my eyes, I used a mixture of Makeup Geek products. For my crease, I used Creme Brûlée. On my lids, I packed on Spell Bound blush until it reached my desired colour then topped it off with Shimma Shimma to lighten the shade and add shimmer. On my outer v, I used Vintage. I then used Whimsical on the centre of my lid. On my lower waterline, I used Rimmel Scandaleyes Liner in Nude. As for my lower lash line, I used a flat definer brush to pack on a bit of Vintage then smoked it out with Spell Bound. To finish the eyeshadow off, I used Shimma Shimma on my tear ducts and as a brow highlight. The lashes I have on are Kara #WSP. Then hitting my lower lashes with some mascara.

Remember to check out my friend, Hannah's look!

Are you a fan of Kylie Jenner?

Beauty Wishlist #1

I've really been trying to hold back from splurging on makeup products lately. With that being said, my beauty wish list has been growing faster than ever. Here are a few products on my list:

Believe it or not, I'm really late on the ABH Liquid Lipstick train. I've been meaning to try them out but every time I add a few into my cart, I always have second thoughts knowing I have a container full of liquid lipsticks. But then again, is there really such thing as too many lippies? Another thing that I feel I'm late on is the Filmstar Bronze & Glow from Charlotte Tilbury. I just can't bring myself to pay that much for one product. One day though, one day. Onto the foundation category, I've been lusting over two products. First is the Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation. This is a drugstore product, the only reason why it's still on my list is because I haven't found it in stores (or because I haven't really been looking much). I've heard good reviews on it though. So when I do come across it, it's coming home with me. The second foundation is the Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector from Urban Decay. I don't think they sell that in Canada yet. I haven't seen it on Sephora or on their website, but I'm patiently/impatiently waiting. Lastly, I'm finally trying to branch out into other skincare brands. Mostly because the prices for my current skincare brand has gone up drastically and it's not readily available in stores. Anyways, the product I've been eyeing is the Midnight Recovery Concentrate from Kiehl's. There's nothing but good reviews on this, so I'm really dying to try this.

What's on your beauty wishlist?

June Goals

I've seen a lot of people doing these types of blog posts and I decided to jump on it. I feel like if I make a list/write it down, it will motivate me to achieve my goals. I'll be following up with an update next month. So, here are my goals for the month of June!

01. Eat Healthier
These past few months, I feel like I've been eating way too much junk food. So this month I hope to start eating much more healthier. I actually downloaded an app called "My Fitness Pal". It helps me track my diet by keeping a diary of the meals I eat every day. I've only been using it for a week, but it's been really useful so far.

02. Limit My Online Shopping
This is something I always try to do every month but I can never do it! It's just so dangerous for me when I'm always at home and all there is to do is online shop. So yeah, hopefully this time I can actually do it. And I say "limit" because I know I won't be able to stop myself fully, haha.

03. Work On My 2016 Yearbook
Sad to say, but half the year has just flew by! I've really been slacking on working on my family yearbook on Shutterfly (post). I know I'm going to have a lot of pictures to go through but I know I'm going to have fun bringing out my creativity and designing it.

04. Try to Upload More Videos on YouTube
I don't know if anyone else does, but I love editing videos! Sometimes I like it even more than filming them. I may not be the greatest at editing videos but I just love working on it and seeing the finish product. It's just so rewarding. So yeah, I plan on making more videos!

05. Get a Haircut
I've been putting this off for the longest time. I don't want to get a full on haircut, so just a trim. I just hate it when I go to the salon and they cut my hair way too short/shorter than I asked for. But this is something I've been planning to do for the longest time. So we'll see if I actually have to balls to cut my hair.

What are your goals for this month?

Storytime | Crazy Ex-Boyfriends

I'm sure we all had that one (or many) crazy ex-boyfriend/girlfriend at some point in our lives. There're the ones that keep their cool in the beginning, then start showing a lil crazy during, then completely loco at the end. Or there're the ones who are just flat out f'n insane. Well, this story is about one of those.

Having boyfriends/girlfriends became a huge thing (for some reason) when I was in elementary. Everybody was dating around. But just to clarify: It wasn't like having sex and whatnot. It was just strictly hugging and/or little pecks on the lips. So, this story takes place when I was in grade 6. I had just moved to Scarborough and into a new school. I'm pretty sure it was around winter of that school year, but basically, this one guy in my class "asked me out" (aka asked me to be his girlfriend). I said yes for some reason, but that's beside the point. Anyways, we were together (aka bf/gf) for more or less than two weeks.

During recess one day, I was hanging out with my friends on these stair steps when one of the guy's friends came up to me and tells me that our relationship is over. Following that, this dumb ass (the now ex-boyfriend of mine) comes up to me with a new girl and starts kissing her in front of my face. So I'm just standing there thinking what the f*ck is happening? But I'm not sad/hurt or anything, it's not like I loved him. It was just awkward because I'm just sitting there wondering what his goal in this was. Lol. Anyway, I'm fine and go on about my day until it's time to go home. And that's where the craziness comes.

So I'm at home, doing whatever my 11 year old self did back then. When all of a sudden the phone rings. I get up and go to check the caller ID. What do you know? It's the lunatic. I pick up and say hello, then he disconnects the call. That happened one or two more times. So I started to get annoyed. He kept calling my house phone (mind you, he knows my dad is strict about me and boys) and hanging up. So the next few times, I pick up and hang up right after. That's when my dad notices what's happening. Next thing I know, my dad picks up the phone and starts talking to this kid. My dad's asking him what his name was and how he knew me. This guy had the nerve to say he was my boyfriend.

You'd think this guy was already crazy for trying to make me feel jealous or whatever, and ringing up my house phone. Now he's claiming he's still my boyfriend? For what? To get me in trouble? That's the thing I didn't understand. Why was he trying to get me in trouble like I did something bad to him? After all, he was the one who broke up with me and did me wrong.

Long story short, my dad went on Hulk mode and I got in trouble for having a "boyfriend".

The End.

Do you have a crazy boyfriend story?

5 Beauty Must-Haves for Summer | Guest Post

With Summer arriving, my friend Amanda (over at Life's Too Short...Buy The Shoes) and I decided to team up and share with everyone our top 5 picks for the season. Make sure to head over to here blog to find out what my essentials are! Here are hers:

5 Summer Beauty Must-haves

Summer has finally arrived in Edmonton, where I live!  It may not stick around quite yet but it's here for now.  A change of seasons normally means a change of beauty routines, which in summer means combating the heat and humidity.  For me summer beauty is all about simplicity.  Lots of lashes, a simple smokey eye, and a pop of color are my go tos to get out the door quickly.  Here are my go to summer beauty products.

Benefit Creaseless Crean Shadow
1. A cream eyeshadow is one of the fastest ways to get a pulled together smokey eye look.  A smokey eye doesn't have to be intense evening make up.  It can be subtle and day time too and one of the easiest ways to achieve this is with a cream product like this Benefit Creaseless Cream shadow in my fave color Bronze Have More Fun! Wear it as a light wash for an easy simple look or build it up for something more dramatic.  The best part is that once it sets it locks in place and doesn't budge!  Layer a powder over top to take things up a notch or lock it in place even more.

MAC Prolongwear Lipstick

MAC Pro Longwear Lipstick
2. I don't know about you but as soon as summer comes around I am all about color and one of the easiest ways to look pulled together is to wear a statement lip.  There is just something about it that takes any look to the next level in seconds.  My go to at the moment is MAC's Good to Go Pro Longwear Lipcream.  It's the perfect shocking orange with just a touch of coral to tone it down, but from classic red to hot pink you can't go wrong with a bright lip.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Swatch
3. Summer is all about tans and glowing skin, so this list wouldn't be complete without a highlighter. Lately I have obsessed with the Liquid Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal!  When it comes to highlight I have to be careful because I have a lot texture on my skin but the liquid formula just blends so effortlessly and really melts into the skin for the most natural look and the color is stunning! This product is also seriously versatile.  It can be worn under foundation or mixed in with foundation for a subtle effect.  Placed over foundation on the high points of the face and left that way or layered under a powder product for a stronger highlight.  Also you mix it with moisturizer or use it on its own on the body.  It looks amazing on the shoulders or collar bone in the summer months when your tan is at its best.  I love the options with this one!

Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer
4. Every year as soon as summer starts making an appearance I pull out all my cutest dress and short, look down and my legs and am blinded my pale skin! LOL!  Ok I might be exaggerating but you know what I mean.  During this in between stage my FAVORITE go to product is the Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer.  You use it daily and it adds just a subtle bit of color with each use that I find just takes the edge off.  It's also great to prolong a tan that you already have and want to keep just a bit longer.  The best part is there's no fake tan small or down time.  You just use it like normal moisturizer and go about your day.

L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara
5. In my opinion one of the most important beauty products to use is a good mascara.  Even if you nothing else on a great mascara just helps define and open the eye for a more awake look, and as the mom of a toddler I always need to look more awake!  I have gone through countless mascaras of the years.  I am always trying to find something new and better and lately I have been LOVING what is happening at the drugstore in the mascara department.  I have a few on the go right now, but one of my favorites is this L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara.  The original L'Oreal Voluminous was my VERY FIRST mascara way back when and remains one of my absolute favorites.  So when this one came out I had to try it.  The "sculpting wing tip" brush is totally unique and unlike anything I have seen before.  It really does grab every single lash to thicken and lengthen your lashes.  It's been a great addition to my collection.

BONUS - I don't think any summer beauty must have list would be complete without a sunscreen so I am including sunscreen as a bonus item to my list.  I have the hardest time finding sunscreen that works with my skin but doesn't break it out.  So unfortunately I don't have any to recommend right now.  If you have a ride or die summer sunscreen that you think I should try please let me know in the comments and I'll have to try it out!

So there you have it!  My must have list for summer!

I hope you enjoyed reading Amanda's picks as much as I did.

The Beauty Rundown | May 2016

Here are my thoughts on these products:

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
First Impression | It has a faint smell of alcohol or something. When putting it on the pimple, it stings for a minute or so.
Review | I rarely get pimples but when I do, they aren't the smallest. I usually get them around that 'time of the month'. So when it's around that time, that's when I pull this out. Honestly, this really does make a difference. This one time, I put it on a blemish I saw sprouting and by the morning it was completely gone! I really recommend this for people who get little breakouts here and there.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips
First Impression | Very pigmented and goes on very smoothly. It is a satin so it didn't dry out my lips, but it did leave my lips a little tacky.
Review | I love the look and feel of this lippie. It's nice to switch it up from the matte lip that I do way too often. It holds up pretty well throughout the day and it doesn't dry out my lips.

ColourPop Creme Gel Liner
First Impression | I first tried the white one as a cream base but I found that it was too quick to dry to even spread thoroughly onto my lid. So since it dried too quickly, my base was really blotchy. I ended up wiping it off and trying something else.
Review | I stand by my first impression that it's not meant to be used as a base. BUT as eyeliner, it's really nice. They're pigmented and last long. They do not smudge at all. Really easy to work with as well!

Next month's product reviews will be on:
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in That Glow | Sephora, $52
  • Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick | Sephora, $30
  • The Estee Edit by Estee Lauder Pore Vanishing Stick | Sephora, $34

When I was first contacted by Amanda from Life's Too Short.. Buy The Shoes, asking if I wanted to be nominated for the Liebster Award, I didn't even know what it was. I actually had to search it up and clarify with her what this "Liebster Award" was. With the help of Google and Amanda, I found out that it was actually a way to help promote new bloggers and give us recognition. So with that said, I firstly would like to thank Amanda for the nomination. Secondly, I would strongly urge everyone to check out her blog. She's beautiful and has a wonderful sense of style.

11 Questions From Amanda
1. What/who inspired you to start your blog?
When I first started blogging, I actually intended it to be only about my life stories and a little bit about beauty and thinking that my only audience would be my family and friends. I was blogging only to let the people in my life know more about me and to have an outlet to share my obsession with makeup.

2. What's your favourite post you've done to date?
My favourite post that I've done to date has to be my pregnancy story (Hidden Blessings). It was my first ever post that I had on my blog, aside from the introduction. A lot of my family and friends gave me feedback on it and told me that they loved it. One said that it was nice to hear the story from my perspective rather than seeing it from hers. A few told me that it made them tear up, and that's why I love it so much. Because it was so real and from the heart and it touched many people.

3. Do you have a day job and what is it?
Unless you consider mothering a child a job, then I do have a full time job. But if not, then no. I am currently a stay at home mom but with the little one going to school September 2017, I do plan to get a job or maybe go back to school.

4. What are your hopes and dreams for your blog?
I hope that in the future I can push out even better content and team up with brands & other bloggers. I hope that maybe this can turn out to be a career for me and I could make a living out of doing something I love.

5. How did you come up with your blog name?
Like I said, I started blogging to give my family and friends a way of getting to know me better and read about my life. And that's why I named my blog In The Life of NM.

6. Have you made any significant connections through blogging and networking?
I haven't made any BIG connections through blogging. In fact, this is the first time I've actually formed a real relationship with other bloggers. I do hope to get in touch with many more bloggers and be part of a big beauty community in the future.

7. What advice would you give to someone who wanted to start a blog?
Advice I would give to someone who wanted to start a blog would be to just have fun with it and to blog about something you are passionate about. I promise you that you won't find blogging as much fun if you do it on something you don't really care about.

8. What is your biggest blogging challenge?
My biggest blogging challenge is the photos. I feel like I'm getting better at producing nice pictures, but I don't think they're to the best of my ability. It's a learning process though!

9. What do you do to relax?
The thing that gets me the most relaxed is a steaming hot shower. Sometimes I just like to stand there and let the water massage my back for the next 30 minutes (or until the hot water starts to run out)

10. What three things can you not live without?
Lip balm because I can't stand dry lips. My phone & Wifi.

11. Favourite things to do on a Saturday night
My favourite things to do on a Saturday night is go on a date night with the boyfriend. Though it happens rarely.

11 Questions for My Nominees
1. What do enjoy the most about blogging?
2. What is your favourite blog and why?
3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
4. If you were given the chance to visit any place in the world, where would you go?
5. What is your favourite trait about yourself?
6. Who or what keeps you motivated to blog?
