Vlog (Toddler Does My Makeup)

The last time I had my makeup done by someone else, I was about 5 years old (for a wedding).
Sixteen long years later, I let my daughter, Kayla, do my makeup.
Watch here how it went!

Potty Trained in a Week Challenge

Happy Satur-yay indeed!

With my little one just turning 3, I realized that she would be going to school next year. Then the realization that she was still in diapers hit me. I figured that it was finally time to start potty training her. I've read online that some children could be potty trained within a week. Without reading the articles, I put myself (and little Kayla) to the challenge. So here's a little 7 day re-cap of how it went down:

Day One: First day. We woke up pretty late today (around 11am). I brought Kayla to the washroom to take off her pull-up and switch over to a panty. Surprisingly, she didn't wet her pull-up at all. I put it on at 10pm last night and it was still completely dry this morning. Anyways, I put her onto the toilet and she went. I've been asking her if she wanted to use the washroom every few minutes or so. - 2 1/2 hrs in, no accidents. I just let her sit on the toilet and she went again. So far so good. - First accident of the day at 2:40pm. It's funny because I asked her if she had to use the washroom literally 10 seconds before she screamed "Mommy, it's wet!" - Kayla asked to go to the washroom and went successfully. - Just when things are going good, they don't. But in all fairness, it wasn't her fault that she had a little mishap. I went to grab the iPad upstairs and she was yelling that she needed to go. I couldn't get to her in time. So she's now wearing her third panty of the day. - It's 6:14pm now and she hasn't had an accident since. She's been asking to go to the washroom a couple of times but some of them she didn't actually pee. - I put a pull-up on her at around 8pm because she had another accident. After 30 minutes, she ended up going number 2 in the pull-up. - She's going to be sleeping in a pull-up for a while longer just in case she wets the bed. But yeah, that ends day one.

Day Two: This morning her pull-up was pretty wet. But that's probably because she had it on since 8pm last night. It wasn't completely soaked though. - She had a little accident and came running to me right after. As soon as I put her onto the toilet, she let go some more pee that she tried to hold in. I think that's a good sign. - Again, a step back. Around 2:30pm, she had an accident while I was cleaning the house. -  Around 5pm, she accidentally went number 2 in her panty. I put her on the toilet and gave her a little scare of what would happen if she did that again. -  It's currently 9:30pm and she hasn't had any accidents since the last. Some times she tells me she needs to go and sometimes I just bring her in to sit on the toilet. All times, she went potty. I'd say she's doing really good, considering it's only the second day.

Day Three: Today, her pull-up was completely dry! She even came into the washroom while I was in there to tell me that she had to pee. - Not even an hour later, she asked me to go to the bathroom because she had to poop. And she did! I think she's getting used to it already. - It's been 3 hours and she still hasn't had any accidents. I'm really surprised. She's been to the washroom at least 3 times already. - It's currently 10:30pm and I'm proud to say that Kayla hasn't had any accidents at all today! Yay! There were times when I brought her to the washroom and times when she asked to go to the washroom. Though I'm still going to put a pull-up on her just in case.

Day Four: Another day with her pull-up dry! I don't think she's going to be one of those kids who wet their beds. I may let her only wear her underwear during the night soon. - No accidents today. But still going to have her wear a pull-up tonight.

Day Five: I feel like these updates are getting shorter each day. I didn't even need to go on and write today. It's already time to sleep and I'm proud to report that she hasn't had any mishaps. Something new though, I tried not to ask her if she needed to go every now and then. When she needed to go, she told me. So that's going really good. She'll still be wearing a pull-up tonight. But I'm probably not going to put her in one tomorrow night.

Day Six: Again, I didn't need to come on here to update that much. No accidents again today. I didn't ask her at all today if she needed to use the washroom, allowing her to let me know when she needed to go. Tonight I'm going to have her sleep in her underwear. Hopefully that goes well!

Day Seven: Kayla didn't wet the bed last night. I'm so proud! And for the final test, we went out! Being safe, I put a pull-up on her. But to my surprise, while we were out she didn't dare to soil her pull-up. She asked to go to the washroom and held it in until we were able to find a washroom.

A few tips I would give for potty training your little one:
  • Let your child wear underwear during the day. When they feel the uncomfortableness when they have an accident, they won't want to feel it again.
  • Have your child sit on the toilet every now and then and encourage them to do their business.
  • When your child does use the toilet, celebrate. This will let them know that they're doing something right, making them want to do it again.
  • PATIENCE. Have patience. Remember that not every kid is the same. Some learn faster or slower than others. Your child will learn at his/her own pace. Just have patience and don't give up.

With all that said, I just wanted to say that I'm really proud of Kayla for learning so fast and being so cooperative throughout the whole potty training process. As a new mom, I didn't know what to expect. I certainly didn't expect her to get it within three days, but she did. So goodbye diapers, hello panties!

If you're a parent, how long did your child take to be potty trained?

My Powder Foundation Routine

With the weather starting to rise and Summer approaching, I've been switching up my make up routine. Lately, I've been reaching for a powder foundation instead of my usual liquid foundation. I've been using powder for mainly two reasons - it feels lighter (almost feels like I have nothing on) on the face, which is good for the hot/sweaty weather & it saves me a lot of time.

To prep my face, I always cleanse and moisturize. But a key step that I never skip is priming my face. My favourite to use is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. This has been my go-to for the past two Summers. It helps make my foundation go on smoothly and keeps it on for a long time. Also, I feel like this helps keep any oiliness down.

Before I actually apply my powder foundation, I like to go under my eyes with a concealer. As of late, I've been testing and loving the MUFE Ultra HD Concealer. This gives me a really good coverage and also brightens my under eyes. I then set (and/or bake) the concealer with my Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. I haven't found any other setting powder that beats this product. But if you have, leave me a comment and share what gem you've found!

After setting my concealer, I give my face a spritz with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water. I like to do this to further get my face ready for the powder foundation (and to re-awaken myself). And it's only after all of that, that I'm ready to move on to the actual foundation part!

The foundation I've been using is the bareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15. I use my Sigma Flat Kabuki Brush to buff it into my skin thoroughly. The coverage I get with this combination is a nice light to medium. This is perfect for me since I don't need much coverage and I like the lightness to it. It feels like I'm just in my regular & naked skin, though a more airbrushed version of it. Perfect for the hot Summer days that are just around the corner.

Do you use powder foundation? If so, which product is your favourite?

Makeup Look: As Seen On Snapchat

Here's a look I did using glitter. I used Makeup Geek's Sparkler in Satellite. This glitter shade is described as a "gold-specked dusty purple". To keep the glitter on I used Too Faced Glitter Glue. I've only sampled one glitter adhesive and I don't think I'm going to look for another one anytime soon because this product holds it so well. As for my winged liner, I have on Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner and false lashes are Creme's #702. I showed my L'oreal True Match Foundation some love for this look. It used to be my go-to foundation once upon a time. Lastly, on my lips is KVD Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow.

I actually did this look last Saturday while the little one was out with her grandparents at a party. I had nothing better to do than to play with makeup for 2 straight hours. Lately, I haven't been beating my face as often as I did. But after having my fill, I took to Snapchat and snapped a few photos. And these selfies were the result. Feel free to add me, by the way: @nnicole.emm

What's In My Bag?

They say that a woman's purse holds everything you need. That could be true, but for me, not so much. I hate lugging around big and bulky bags! On most occasions, I only bring a small card holder around with me. But for the times I do have to carry a bag with me, this is what's in it.

From left to right:
Purse | Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Crossbody
Phone | iPhone 5s / Tory Burch Case
Earphones | Apple
Lipstick | Whichever I'm wearing that day (in photo: NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara)
Mirror | Sephora
Perfume | Balenciaga Florabotanica Rollerball
Wallet | Lauren Ralph Lauren Morrison Slim Leather Wallet
Charger | Apple
Keys | Luffy Keychain from Pacific Mall

What do you keep in your bag?

Top Picks | Current Favourites (Beauty & Non-Beauty)

I haven't done a favourites post since I first started blogging (Current Beauty Favourites). So here's a mini favourites list of beauty & some non-beauty items:

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner: I got a deluxe sample of this from my Sephora birthday gift this year. I tried it out on my upper lash line on day and that's the day I fell in love with this. The formula is really smooth and creamy and it's easy to apply. But what really got me was the it didn't smudge on me at all. I kid you not, this thing stayed on all day. Usually, other liners smudge or disappear throughout the day but this one stayed on. Very impressive.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Rust: This has become my new go-to palette. I love the shades in this. They're all really nicely pigmented. I like to use the last shadow as a base before I apply any other shadows, so it's very versatile as well. The only issue I have with this is that it doesn't have a good transition shade. But other than that, this palette is everything to me right now.

ColourPop Lippie Stix Tootsi + Lumiere Lip Combo: I've really been loving the combo of these two lately. I like to throw on Lumiere first then put on Tootsi in the middle. After that, I like to dab a tissue on my lips to take away some of the shiny-ness. I've been wearing this combo almost every time I put on some makeup.

YouTuber Alissa Ashley: I stumbled upon this YouTuber about a month or two ago. What I really like about her is that she makes a lot of tutorials made for hooded eyes. I have hooded eyes, so I like to try out some of her looks because I already know how it'll look on my type of eye. She's also really  pretty!

Drake's Views Album: I've always been a big fan of Drake. This was a long awaited album and it was definitely worth the wait. My favourite songs on it are Feel No Ways, Faithful, & With You

What non-beauty things have you been loving lately?

Cooking With N, Vol. 2 | Crepes

Today I made crepes! Darwin & I have been craving for this for the longest time. So, this morning we woke up early to go grocery shopping for some ingredients.

To make the batter, you need to mix:
2 eggs, 2/3 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp of
melted butter, 1 tsp of sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla.

After you mixed that all up and the batter was smooth, pour a bit of the batter into the centre of a pan  and tilt it so that it covered the whole pan (on medium heat, by the way). Let that side cook and then flip it over. The crepe should only be on the pan for around 1 or 2 minutes.

You can fill the crepe with what ever you want. I put vanilla ice cream in mine and folded it, topped it with whipped cream and chocolate sauce, and strawberries on the side. It was so good that Darwin had to have two.

MAC Collection

When I first started getting into makeup, my go-to stores would be the drugstore (of course) and MAC. Now a days, I buy almost all of my makeup from Sephora - VIB 3 years in a row; I have yet to reach Rouge. I guess it's because Sephora carries a bunch of brands and I feel it's more convenient to find everything in one store. Regardless, I still catch myself going on MAC's website and browsing a few times a month. These are a few things that I did bring myself to buy over time:

I think the first thing I ever bought from MAC was their Studio Fix Fluid (I'm in the shade NC35, btw). This was one of my favourite foundations for a long time. It gave me a really good full coverage. The formula is on the thicker side, so I prefer to apply it using a Beauty Blender. If you read my current makeup favourites, you would know I'm loving their Fix+. It's the best to pull your whole face together and take away any powdery look when you apply your makeup.

Another product from them that I love is their Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. I love this highlighter. It gives off a nice glow that isn't too overpowering. As you can tell from the photo, mine is shattered. I can't recall what happened but I just know I always feel disappointed when I reach for it. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to try that alcohol trick to fix this.

I feel like the Pro Longwear Concealer has been raved about by everyone at one point. I did love it at one point until it started creasing under my eyes. Now that I think of it, it could be because I switched up my under eye powder. Nonetheless, I still think it's worth a try for people who are considering trying it. I have a few Eyeshadows from them: Soft Brown, Sky & Sea, ???. There's not really much to say about them, they're just good. I also own one Blush from them in the shade Harmony. I love this shade, it's a matte and really subtle shade. On to the lips portion, I have three Lip Pencils that I absolutely LOVE. I have Whirl, Stripdown, and Spice. I really recommend them!

MAC's Lipsticks were something I started collecting back then, for a short while. The shades I have are all nicely pigmented. The shades I own are Stone, Girl About Town, Kinda Sexy, Rebel, Ruby Woo, Heroine, Plumful, Saint Germain, and Up The Amp. My favourite ones are Stone, Ruby Woo & Kinda Sexy.

And that's all. Like I mentioned, I have been browsing their site often. I feel like a MAC spree has been long overdue. Keep checking my blog regularly if you're interested in seeing what MAC products I've been eyeing.

Do you have any product recommendations from this brand?

Makeup Look: KVD Rust Quad & Dark Lips

Good morning, friends! Here's a look I did using the Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Rust from Kat Von D. On Sephora, they claim that this quad is perfect for blue eyes but I really fell in love with the burnt orange colour, and that's why I picked it up. The eyeshadows are really pigmented (KVD doesn't disappoint). I used the white shade under my brows and also dusted it over my entire lid as a base. Then I used Makeup Geek's Creme Brûlée as a transition shade, that gorgeous burnt orange shade on my crease, and the dark brown on my inner part of my lid and outer v. On the centre of my lid I used one of L'oreal's Infallible Eyeshadows in Amber Rush. As for my lower lash line, I smoked out the burnt orange colour and used the dark brown shade more precisely. On my lips is ColourPop's Ultra Matte Lip in Kae

The Beauty Rundown | April 2016

Here's this months reviews:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer:
First Impression | This was really new to me. This product has sort of a triangle shape to it, but I'm used to just a point (like the ABH Brow Wiz). I guess I just have to get used to it. Other than that, it has good colour pay off and I'd say it's more creamier than the Brow Wiz, that tends to pull some of my brow hairs occasionally.
Review | Definitely replaced my other eyebrow pencils. I almost never use my Brow Wiz or the NYX brow pencil. I find that this product is faster to use and is much more creamier than both of my other brow pencils. I recommend this if you're looking for a new one to try.

Too Faced Glitter Glue
First Impression | The texture is similar to a MUFE primer that I have. It applies smoothly.
Review | This is the first glitter glue that I've tried and I think it's amazing. It actually kept my glitter on for the whole wear. The glitter adheres to this product really well.

Makeup Geek Sparklers
First Impression | Very messy packaging. Once I opened it, glitter was everywhere.
Review | The glitter is really beautiful. I bought the shade Satellite and it's really nice. Like I said, without there being a sifter, it gets extremely messy and you lose a lot of product because of it. Application wise, it's good paired with the Too Faced Glitter Glue. I use a tissue to shield my under eyes from catching any fallout, I feel like that's a necessity.

Next month's product reviews will be on:
  • Mario Badescu Drying Lotion | Mario Badescu, $17
  • ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips | ColourPop, $6USD
  • ColourPop Creme Gel Colour | ColourPop, $6USD
