Most Loved Beauty Products of 2016

Twenty-sixteen is finally coming to a close. Since deciding to become a beauty blogger earlier this year, I've been exposed to so many new (and a ton of well-known) beauty brands and products. I'm pretty sure 2016 is the year I've used and sampled the most products compared to any other year. Now that this beauty-filled year is ending, it's time to reflect on my most used bits..

The Christmas Tag

First & foremost, I would like to take the time to wish everyone reading this a very Merry Christmas! I hope you're all still stuffed and filled with joy from your Christmas festivities. I've seen this tag floating around a lot throughout this month and thought Christmas Day would be the perfect time to put it up (even though I'll probably posting it a day late) - so here we go!

The Holiday Party Must-Have ft. Sole Patches

When December rolls around, so does all of the holiday parties. With those holiday parties comes dressing up. And finally, with dressing up comes pulling out your favourite, not-so-comfortable shoes. Why must all the pretty shoes have a 5 minute comfort limit?

What's In My Backpack?

The last time I did a 'What's In My Bag?' was way back in May (see post here). During that time I rarely lugged a bag around, but when I had to, I carried a tiny crossbody with me. Now that I've gone back to work, I use a backpack to carry my stuff around with me. Before we jump into the contents of my bag, I just want to give a shoutout to my lovely bag that I've been loving. It's a faux leather backpack* from Zaful. It's pretty spacey, so I could fit a whole bunch of crap in there. But what I really love about it is that the inside is a gorgeous light purple shade. I know nobody's going to really see it, but I just love that little detail. Other than that, it's a very sturdy and well-made bag that I've been using non-stop for the past few weeks. And now onto what's inside:

Find Your Perfect Holiday Bra ft. ThirdLove

With the holiday season upon us, there is no doubt that you'll be attending a few Christmas parties. It's all fun and games until you think to yourself, 'What the hell am I going to wear?' After going through multiple stores, trying on hundreds of different outfits, and finally picking something out, another question arises. A question that will either make or break your outfit of choice. And that question is 'What bra am I going to wear with this?'

A Personalized Gift ft. CaseApp

One of the best gifts you could give someone is a personalized item. Whether it's some jewelry, clothing, or even a diy gift, it shows the person you're gifting that you were really thinking about them when you were picking something out. A favourite of mine has to be personalized laptop skins or custom iPhone cases.

I've Reached VIB Rouge!

Mama, I made it! Well, actually, I don't think my mom would be too proud of this achievement. But I've finally made it to VIB Rouge status for the first time! I actually hit it last weekend unexpectedly. Well, I knew I was close, but I spent about two hours pacing all over Sephora trying to pick out a gift. When I finally checked out and the cashier told me I reached Rouge, I was a bit caught off guard. If you're not too familiar with Sephora's Beauty Insider program, here's a little breakdown for ya:

The Blush Edit

There was a point in my life where I would never put on blush, just bronzer/contour & highlight. Then one day, I randomly decided to throw on a wash of blush. To say it was 'life changing' might just be an understatement. It just pulled the whole look together. From that day on, I never skipped blush ever again. Though I talk about it like I am obsessed, I'm actually very picky with the shades I wear. I'm not too into the bright pinks or corals because, well, I don't think they look too flattering on me. But I am a huge fan of neutral/natural-looking blushes - and here are my favourites:

December Goals & November Update

Holy cr*p, it is DECEMBER, the last month of the year. Is it just me or did 2016 go by extremely fast? Nonetheless, it's been an amazing year and I'm so ready to set the last few goals for myself this year & get them did! But before I go into that, here's a little update on how successful I was at achieving last month's goals:

Christmas Gift Ideas: For Him

One of the biggest problems I face each holiday season is buying presents for the males in my life. When it comes to my dad and brother, you'd swear I'd know what to get them since I've been living with them all my life and see them every day, but when it comes to it, I always struggle. With my boyfriend, on the other hand, it's even worse. Luckily, I did a little cheating this year and asked him to help me come up with some gift ideas for this post. I'm guessing he threw in some hints in here for me to catch on to and help me out this year. But if you're anything like me and struggle to choose gifts for all the hims in your life, hopefully this list could help you!

Grooming My Brows ft. Tinkle Eyebrow Razors

Eyebrows are one of the most important parts of the face, in my opinion. A lot of people like to go to shops to get their brows waxed or threaded. Personally, I like doing them myself. The first time I ever plucked my brows, it was a disaster. Actually, it was a disaster a ton of times following that. They were either too thin, too short, didn't frame my face well, had a weird shape, etc. But after a while and many failed attempts, I finally have it down to a tee and know how to get my eyebrows to look the way I want them to.

Winter Fashion Essentials

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, there's no denying that the winter coldness is finally upon us. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Winter. I absolutely hate the cold, so whenever this time of year rolls around, I'm ready to go into hibernation mode. But sometimes real life gets in the way and I have to get my ass up and out of hibernation. A good side to all this coldness though is the fashion and all the different outfits you could put together. Here are some of my favourites for this time of year:

Summer vs. Winter Skin | Guest Post

If your idea of skincare is the same routine all year-round, then you are doing it wrong. You wouldn’t wear your bathing suit in the middle of winter, would you? Well, just as you switch your lightweight summer dress for a winter coat, you should change your skincare with the arrival of different environmental conditions. Temperature, wind and UV rays vary between the seasons affecting your skin in very different ways, each of it requiring a different approach. Let us take a closer look at how these two seasons are affecting your skin and how to adapt your skincare to each of them.

How To Beat The Blogging Funk

Surely every blogger's hit a writing stump some time in their lives. Admittedly, I've almost given up on blogging a few times. But before throwing in the towel, I think about how far I've come with my blog and all the good things brought to my life because of it. I immediately try to find ways keep my blog running. Here are some of the things that help me:

Christmas Gift Ideas: Beauty Gift Sets

We're inching closer and closer to December each day. And with December comes Christmas! I love this time of year because a lot of companies come out with their holiday gift sets. Who doesn't love a good value set, am I right? Today I'm sharing a few gift set ideas that you may want to give, or hint to someone to get you, for Christmas:

Annnnd..I'm back with part two of my ASOS A/W wishlist. Just in time for Black Friday as well. If we have the same style, or if these pieces interest you, hopefully they go on sale during the event! At the moment they have a bunch of pieces on sale, pre-Black Friday, which are really worth checking out as well.

Beauty Brands I Want To Try

Ten months. I've been blogging for a little over ten months. Over the span of that time, I've been exposed to so many brands, most of which I probably would have never heard about if it wasn't for the beauty blogging community. When I see multiple bloggers raving about a brand's products, I can't help but to get curious and think 'Omg, I need to try this!'.

Sephora VIB Sale Haul | Fall 2016

So.. The Sephora VIB sale happened and I sort of went a tad bit overboard. But I mean, who wouldn't? 20% off high end makeup? Who in their right mind would pass that up? Definitely not I. Since being a part of the blogging community, there's been a bunch of products that've made it onto my wishlist and I finally got to tick a few of them off during this sale.

Makeup Look: Pop of Green

The thing I really like about makeup is that there's no right or wrong way to do something and the amount of looks you can create is endless. When I do my makeup, I usually stick to all the neutral shades. But today, I felt like stepping out of my comfort zone. I experimented using a colour I would normally stray away from, and in the end I surprisingly really liked how it turned out.

Shop My Stash: Single Eyeshadows

I had no idea I had so many pretty eyeshadows in my stash, collecting dust! If you read my November goals post (here), I mentioned that I wanted to clean out my makeup drawers and sort through everything. I ended up finding a few gems in there that I completely forgot I had. A bunch of them were single eyeshadows. Whenever I do my makeup, I usually use palettes and totally neglect these little shadows. But enough's enough, I'm now making an effort to get more use out of them because they're just way too good to rot away in my drawers!

Product Empties #2

It's been three months since my last empties post (here). I'm actually very surprised to be doing this post because I almost never finish up any products in such a semi-short period of time. It might be due to the fact that I was subconsciously trying to clear out some space in my collection to add some new bits into the mix. And what do ya know, the Sephora VIB sale rolled around and that's just what I did (but that's for another post!). Anyways, onto the main purpose of the post..

A Day In My Life + Mini Haul

Here's to a Girls Day Out! Last week, my friend asked me if I wanted to come along with her to go on a little shopping trip. I gladly accepted and brought along my little one with me.

Would You Rather: Beauty Edition | TAG

Tags are some of my favourite posts to do. They're so different and fun to write after you've been writing a bunch of reviews and all that serious stuff! A few days ago, I stumbled upon this tag on My Life As Marina. 'Would You Rather' is such a fun game to play with friends and I found it really interesting that there was a beauty version. If you'd like to play along, feel free to leave your answers in the comments!

Essie Nail Polish Collection

Way back in the day, when I had time & before having a child, I used to love painting my nails. I even did the whole nail art bit as well. Now a days, I'd be lucky to even get some colour on my nails once a month. Admittedly, my polish collection isn't the largest or do I own a variety of brands. In fact, the company that I gravitate mostly towards is Essie.

November Goals & October Update

Welcome to another goals post, where I tell you all about how I failed to complete my last month's goals yet again! Well I don't think it was a complete fail. Let's start off with the things I did come through with - I managed to get into the Halloween mood. In fact, you could see my look for Halloween in this post and #TheNyxEvent2016 (see here) was also something that got me into the Halloween mood. Next, I sort of shopped for A/W clothing. More browsing than buying was done, but I did purchase a really comfy sweater that I am obsessed with. And I picked out a few pieces from Zaful, which I am still waiting for to arrive.

8 Beauty Products I'll Always Repurchase

When I find a product I am utterly impressed with, I don't hesitate to pull out my wallet when I've gone through it. There are quite a few items that fall into that category, specifically all of the things I mentioned in my Ride or Die Tag (here). I didn't want to sound like a broken record repeating the same products over and over again, so I tried to think of a few others that I'd snap up in an instant and I came up with a handful of them.

Micellar Water Showdown | Bioderma vs. Garnier

A few months ago, I purchased the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water. It was a random purchase but I have no regrets whatsoever. Since then, it became a staple in my skincare routine. It was a great first step to cleansing my face. I was amazed at how easily this water took off almost all of my makeup. Fast forward to present day and I'm down to the last few uses. Desperate to still keep micellar water part of my routine but not willing to spend almost $30 on water, I sought out a cheaper alternative. And that's where the Garnier Micellar Water comes in..

The Beauty Rundown | October 2016

I finally hopped on the bandwagon of stick foundations and I am so glad that this one was my first choice. I stand by what I said in my favourite beauty brands post - Hourglass has not and will not let me down! This is an amazing foundation and definitely lived up to all it's hype. When applying it directly to the face, you could already tell how smooth and buttery the formula is. It glides on so nicely that I may even describe it as melting into the face. Blending it into the skin is a breeze as well.

October Haul

It's time to haul everything I bought this month. You may or may not have noticed that I didn't do one last month. I didn't forget! I just didn't really buy anything last month, which really surprised me. I guess I sort of made up for that by buying a bunch of things this month. With that said, we're officially back to our scheduled programming. Here's what I pick up throughout October:

A (Late) Last Minute Halloween Look

Let me explain. I wanted to do some Halloween looks this year, but the past week was such a busy time for me. Over a period of 5 days, I was literally home for a minimum of 3 hours. There was no way I could of gotten anything done - So yeah, that was my poor excuse for not getting anything done.. Now onto the main purpose of this post.

Skincare Saviours

A few weeks ago, my skin had the worst tantrum of life. The skincare routine that I've been using for over a year just stopped working for me all of a sudden. I was breaking out like crazy and I didn't know what to do. I'm saying even my Mario Badescu Drying Lotion wasn't helping me. For months, I've been saying how I was going to venture into some new skincare and with this happening, I was forced to make that a priority and find a fix asap!

My Go-To Fall Lipsticks

Fall is the best season to bring out your darkest lipsticks, and that is exactly what I do. During any other season, I can't see myself wearing a vampy lip without it looking strange and wrong for the season. But Fall is finally upon us and I'm ready to share my favourite darker lip shades, that I've been waiting all year to wear, with everybody. Oh, and if you're wondering what that shimmery thing is in the bottom left corner of the photo is... It's a lil pumpkin that my little one made!

Covergirl Lipstick in Euphoria / I randomly picked this up without hearing anything about this shade or the lipstick collection, but fell in love. It's an amazing berry shade that is really creamy and smooth. I was really impressed with the formula as it's a drugstore/affordable lipstick. When swatched beside MAC Rebel, they're almost exactly alike. I would say that Euphoria is a little more on the red side. So if you're on a budget and lusting over Rebel, definitely pick this one up.

MAC Lipstick in Rebel / If you're not on a budget though, go ahead and pick up this cult favourite. It really is a beautiful shade and I totally get why so many people love it. The finish is a satin which I like because it's not drying on the lips. That is especially great since the weather is changing and with the colder temperature, my lips gets drier/chappy. Since it's not a matte formula, it doesn't make my lips look like crap.

MAC Lipstick in Stone / This may be a weird shade for some but to me, it's beautiful. It's a grey-toned brown with a matte finish. Like I mentioned, I tend to get drier lips so I have to moisturize really well when I use this. But regardless, I stand by what I said that it really is a beautiful shade. I've seen it worn on a bunch of different skin tones and it looks great on them all. If you don't own this one yet, you have to swatch it the next time you're at MAC.

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Vampira / This shade is a really vampy, dark red. Just like every other shade I've mentioned, it is gorgeous! I actually wore this yesterday for the first time this season and I fell in love with it all over again. I always say how my favourite liquid lipstick brand is Kat Von D because they doesn't dry my lips out at all, so this lipstick is a double win for me.

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Lolita / Seriously, who doesn't love Lolita?! It's another cult favourite and it's a shade that looks amazing on everybody. This shade isn't so dark, but I think it looks really pretty in the Fall season. It's a mauve/rose shade, which I am always drawn to, and again, it's a Kat Von D liquid lipstick.. So it's another winner for me!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips in LAX / LAX is very similar to Vampira but it's a tad darker. They could definitely be dupes. I think this lipstick looks especially good on gloomier days. One of the best things about this, and the next two lipsticks, is the price point. They're very affordable, but they're still amazing quality products.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips in TooLips / Just like Stone, this is a satin formula, which is great for Fall. In the swatch photo, compared to Stone, they look completely different. But in person, they look more similar. Stone is more grey toned, while TooLips is more on the plum side. It looks gorgeous on the lips and the formula of these satin lipsticks are really nice.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips in Tulle / Last but not least, another mauve-y shade. This one is more on the darker side though, which I think makes it more Fall appropriate. I like to wear mauve shades all year 'round because I think it's the best shade to suit my skin tone. This is the perfect mauve option for the season to me.

L-R: (in order as mentioned)
Do we have the same picks? Leave your go-to Fall lipstick in the comments!

Top Picks | Beauty Brands

Makeup has been something I've been interested in for a few years now. Though I consider myself to have more than decent amount of beauty products in my stash from various brands, I feel like there is still so many other brands I have yet to try. From the bunch of companies I have sampled from though, I've come to figure out which ones I really vibe with and which ones I could care less about. Today, I want to share my favourite beauty brands that have never left me disappointed based on the products I own from them.

Makeup Look: Date Night Glam ft. Tricky Hair Lashes

Who doesn't like going out on dates? Whether it's with your significant other or with a few friends, dates are fun. Personally, I began cherishing nights out a lot more after having a child. It's not too often that my boyfriend and I get to go out for dates, though I'm not complaining. We really love spending time as a little family. But when we do have the chance to go out, just the two of us, I always take my sweet ass time to get ready and do my makeup.

A to Z of Me | Get To Know Me

Lately, I've been doing so many Autumn type posts. As much as I enjoy doing them, I felt like doing something different for today's post. This is a post I've seen tons of other bloggers do and I enjoy reading them. I always thought that this was a fun post for getting to know the person behind the blog a little better. I've done a few posts more about me, which people seemed to enjoy, so I thought this would be a good one to do. And I was also curious if I could even come up with something for each letter. Well, here's my chance (and yours) to find out!

Fall 2016 Beauty Trends

I mentioned in a previous post (here) that I love beauty trends, Fall's in particular. With each year, these trends change. Some, however, are still something that's done every year - yup, you know I'm talking about the dark, berry lips. I did some research on what's hot for the season. Low and behold, there are some really good ones this year. Let's get into them, shall we?

ASOS A/W16 Wishlist | Part I

Before submerging myself into the beauty/fashion blogging world, I hadn't heard much about Asos. Now, almost everyday I see it mentioned on a few blogs that I follow. Of course that led me to go check out what they carried. And holy crap, they have a load of lovely pieces. A lot of times I find myself browsing through the site and adding a few articles of clothing into my basket. I've never actually purchased anything from the site yet, but I feel like I will be very soon.

My Love/Hate Relationship With Autumn

Oh look, another Autumn post. Ah, Autumn is one of the seasons I love to hate....and also hate to love. If I had to rank the four seasons, I think Fall would come in second to best (obviously with Summer coming in first). There's so much things to love about the season. Then again there are a few things I don't like so much about it. Enough rambling though, here are those 'things':

A Lush Haul

There's officially a local Lush store near me! And by 'local' I mean a 5 minute walk from my house. Can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing (for my pocket) yet. I have a small confession though.. It was my first time actually going in longer than 5 minutes and buying something. The only other time I went into a Lush was a few years ago and I went in knowing absolutely nothing. I ended up buying the Bubblegum Lip Scrub, which was actually a good buy. But anyways, fast forward a few years later, it was extremely different this time around.

October Goals & September Update

Ah, hello October! It's Halloween season with Christmas slowly creeping around the corner. But before we go too far into the future, let's talk about September and how much of a successful (or unsuccessful) month for me. Last month, I mentioned how it was going to be a productive time for me but if you read my last post, you would know it was anything but that because of me binge watching the crap out of a show on Netflix.

A Few Bits I've Been Loving

I don't regularly do the whole 'monthly favourites' thing but I sometimes find it nice sharing some of the things I've been obsessing over as of late. I absolutely love reading people's non-beauty favourites  as much as I enjoy reading their beauty favourites. So here's a little curation of goodies that I've really been fond of:

Hourglass Veil Mineral Vs. NYX Angel Veil

If you're a regular reader of mine, then you're probably sick and tired of hearing about my holy grail primer aka the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Well, today my favourite primer is sharing the spotlight with a product that everyone claims to be a dupe for, the NYX Angel Veil Primer. A lot of people have told me that these were basically the same thing, so I of course got curious and decided to put them against each other for myself.

Keys To Long Lasting Makeup

I have never met someone who said that they'd prefer short lasting makeup. Really, why would anyone ever say that? Everyone strives for their makeup to last all day, especially if their look is absolutely flawless that day. Thankfully, there are a couple of ways to keep your work of art on your face longer than you think.

Makeup Look: Berry Eyes & Pink Lips

As of late, every time I go on bloglovin' to check out all the new posts, at least one blogger is talking about something 'berry'. Whether it's berry lipsticks, berry eyeshadow, berry blush, etc. I guess that's natural whenever Autumn rolls around. I have to admit, berry is the colour I think about when I hear the word 'Fall' or 'Autumn'. Well, orange is when I'm talking to someone who's not into makeup. But  definitely berry when it does come to a makeup junkie. Enough rambling though, here's another 'berry' blog post for ya!

The Beauty Rundown | September 2016

I picked this up after seeing it on another beauty blog. I remember the swatch being really pretty and I was really starting liking glosses at the time, so I was determined to get my hands on this the next time I went into NYX. I'm so glad I did. The shade I snagged was Chocolate Crepe, and what a beautiful shade it is. The colour payoff of this is amazing! It also doesn't feel heavy or too sticky on the lips. NYX definitely did a good job with the formula. It gives the perfect glossy look to your lips. I'm for sure going to be picking up a few more shades.

On the same visit to NYX as mentioned above, I also went ahead and purchased this Ombre Lip Duo from them. It was mentioned on Snapchat by one of my favourite YouTube beauty gurus. The shade looked absolutely beautiful on her, so of course I had to get it. To be honest, I think this particular shade doesn't suit me as well as it did her but the formula, wow. The product itself is very creamy and easy to blend, so achieving an ombre lip with this is made extremely easy. To make this work for me, I like to pair it up with a light gloss and it makes the worlds difference. If I find a better shade option, it will be going home with me! (I actually have my eye on Rags & Riches)

I mentioned this foundation in my 'Minimal Makeup Day' post. I've used this a lot, especially on days where the weather was unbearably hot but I still wanted to put something on my face. The coverage is light to medium, but it is buildable. The finish to this is very natural, like you have a healthy glow. The foundation stays put on my face for my whole wear without budging and does not look cakey at all. This is definitely going to be my go-to for future summer months!

Read last month's beauty rundown here.

This month I'll be trying out and reviewing these products:
  • Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation | Sephora, $56
  • L'oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation | Drugstore, $13
  • Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Essential Daily Moisturizer* | Beauty Box 5, $55
